NWU holds memorial service after second-year student’s body found on Vaal campus

VANDERBIJLPARK - A memorial service will be held at 12:00 today for the 20-year-old Mojalefa Reabetswe Nthebe whose body was found on the NWU Vaal campus last week Friday, 2 May 2025. The Vanderbijlpark SAPS on Monday said in a statement sent to 90.6 FM News a student’s body was found in a dam behind the cafeteria on the NWU Vaal campus on Friday. The North West University expressed their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the 20-year-old after the incident. NWU spokesperson, Louis Jacobs, this morning told the 90.6 FM News Team in response to our enquiry that Nthebe was a second-year student in industrial psychology. Jacobs said immediately after his body was discovered, the matter was reported to the police who is investigating an inquest. He said Protection Services is providing all possible support to the police in their investigation. As is the case after any such incident, counseling is provided to those in need of it. Jacobs said due to the fact that the matter is in the hands of the police, no further information will be provided by the NWU. A memorial service will be held today at 12:00 at the Kumba Hall on the Vanderbijlpark Campus.
