VANDERBIJLPARK - The South African Police Service destroyed over 18,000 firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition in Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark, Thursday, 22 February. These firearms have been either forfeited to the State or voluntarily handed in. The District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Major General Nkhensani Lemba The District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Major General Nkhensani Lemba officiated the official firearm destruction process. Major General Lemba was joined by various senior SAPS management.According to Lemba, some of these firearms have been used during the commission of a crime such as GBVF and cash-in-transit armed robberies. Lemba confirmed that all these firearms have already been subjected to a ballistic test to determine whether they are linked to other serious crimes committed.
