VAAL TRIANGLE - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union warns of severe capacity constraints within the South African Police Service. General secretary Jeffrey Dladla says despite government efforts to recruit new members, the numbers are still insufficient to make a significant impact in the fight against crime. He says despite ongoing recruitment efforts to add 30,000 new members over three years, attrition remains a challenge, with 6,500 members leaving the service annually. Dladla calls for standardised benefits and conditions for traffic officials and a strategy to prevent police killings.
