Public invited to consultation regarding the proposed renaming of Houtkop Road

VEREENIGING - The Gauteng Geographical Names Committee, in partnership with the Sedibeng District invites the public to a public consultation regarding the proposed renaming of Houtkop Road to Duma Nokwe Road. The public is invited to share their thoughts and opinions on this geographical name change. Duma Nokwe became South Africa's first black advocate at the Johannesburg Bar, beating his nearest rival, Nelson Mandela, to the honour in 1956. In his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, former president Nelson Mandela wrote Duma Nokwe was the only advocate in the Treason Trial. The public consultation meeting will take place at the Vereeniging City Hall, Wednesday morning, 24 July, starting at 09:00.
