VAAL TRIANGLE - The Health Department has expressed renewed concern over the rising incidence of teenage pregnancies nationwide. On Christmas Day, over 145 teenagers gave birth in public hospitals, contributing to a total of just over 1,700 deliveries. The department emphasised the potential impact on the teenagers’ futures, including potential interruptions to their academic journeys. It called for collaboration with society to enhance sexual and reproductive health awareness campaigns, encouraging young people to utilise health services and family planning to prevent unplanned pregnancies.
