SA Women and Sports Foundation highlights need for increased gender equality in sport

VAAL TRIANGLE - In commemorating Women’s Day, Cabinet welcomes women’s representation in the judiciary. Marking the 68th anniversary of the Women’s March and 70 years since the women’s charter, the Cabinet highlighted Justice Mandisa Maya’s historic appointment as South Africa’s first female chief justice. Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says Maya’s appointment is seen as a milestone in increasing gender and racial diversity in the judiciary.

Meanwhile, the South African Women and Sports Foundation says while progress has been made in female representation, the sport sector still has a long way to go to achieve gender equality. Founder Muditambi Ravele commended policies supporting women in sport. Speaking to the SABC, she highlighted the role of increased participation in advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality.
