SASSA finalising biometric system to strengthen grant integrity

VAAL TRIANGLE - SASSA is finalising the rollout of a biometric identification system to boost security and integrity in grant administration. SASSA CEO, Themba Matlou, says this is part of Treasury's budget conditions for 2025, requiring cost-saving mechanisms and improved verification. Matlou says the agency will implement income checks, biometric controls, and inter-agency data sharing. He emphasised that the agency remains committed to transparency, protecting the vulnerable, and ensuring only deserving beneficiaries receive support.
