SEDIBENG - A large-scale law enforcement sweep under Operation Shanela led to the arrest of 137 suspects in Sedibeng District between 25 and 26 June 2025. The coordinated effort, led by Sedibeng SAPS in partnership with Gauteng Traffic, local municipalities, Home Affairs, and community safety stakeholders, targeted serious and violent crime across the region. Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed arrests for charges including murder, rape, assault, carjacking, robbery, drug possession, firearm offences, and more. Before the operation, 118 wanted suspects were also traced and arrested. On 26 June, District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho led the operation in Sebokeng, resulting in the arrest of 14 undocumented individuals, the seizure of illegal firearms and drugs, the closure of two illegal shebeens, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. An Imbizo held in Kanana allowed residents to voice concerns. Residents are urged to report crime via 10111, 08600 10111, or the MySAPS App.
