Sebokeng Police arrest woman accused of kidnapping newborn after two-week search

SEBOKENG - Sebokeng SAPS arrested a woman accused of kidnapping a 13-day-old baby after a two-week manhunt, bringing relief to the child’s mother and the wider community. The incident began on 29 August 2025 when the mother, while shopping in Evaton, met a woman who introduced herself as Nthabiseng from Orange Farm. Posing as pregnant, the suspect befriended the mother and later accompanied her to Sebokeng. At Thabong Shopping Centre, she offered to hold the infant but disappeared through another exit. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit launched an intensive search. Following community tip-offs, the suspect was arrested in Eatonside on 14 September and has appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court. Acting Station Commander, Colonel Chrizelda Pienaar, praised police and residents for their swift cooperation. Authorities urge communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to Sebokeng SAPS or Crime Stop.
