VANDERBIJLPARK - Gauteng police say six suspects were arrested following a cash-in-transit robbery that took place opposite the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) campus in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday, 8 March 2025. Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said in a statement security officers from Fidelity Cash Solutions were ambushed while attempting to deposit money at a Capitec ATM. Armed suspects held the guards at gunpoint and forced them inside their security van. The driver was then ordered to call the control room to obtain the security code needed to access the safe. Nevhuhulwi said the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and the security officers’ firearms. They initially fled in an Audi A3 hatchback before switching to a Toyota Quantum as their getaway vehicle. Multiple units from the Sedibeng District were immediately mobilized to track down the suspects. Acting on intelligence, officers traced the perpetrators to a house in Evaton, where the six suspects were located and arrested. Two of the vehicles allegedly used in the commission of crime were also found in the yard and seized, along with three pistols, one rifle, five cell phones and the money. All six suspects are expected to appear before Vanderbijlpark Magistrates' Court on a charge of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
