Spaza Shop support fund campaign rolls into Sedibeng to empower township businesses

VEREENIGING - The Sedibeng District Municipality will host the next leg of the national campaign to raise awareness about the R500-million Spaza Shop Support Fund. An interactive session is scheduled for Friday at the City Hall in Vereeniging’s Central Business District, starting at 09:00. Launched in April by Ministers Parks Tau and Stella Ndabeni, the fund aims to boost South African-owned spaza shops and township convenience stores. Attendees will receive critical information on how to access financial and non-financial support, including affordable stock delivery, infrastructure upgrades, and business training. The campaign, led by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the Department of Small Business Development, has already seen success in provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. The initiative promotes bulk buying, local sourcing, and improved competitiveness for township-based businesses.
