The DA to launch a petition to demand urgent restoration of neglected cemeteries in Metsimaholo

SASOLBURG - The DA in Metsimaholo will formally engage the municipal manager to urgently address the deteriorating state of cemeteries across the municipality. According to the DA, for nearly a decade, cemeteries in areas such as Zamdela, Gortin, Refengkgotso, and Amelia have been neglected, lacking basic maintenance, fencing, and infrastructure. During a recent visit, the DA highlighted shocking conditions at the Zamdela cemetery, which is unfenced, has no driveways, and is freely accessible to pedestrians and stray animals. In Gortin and Refengkgotso, similar neglect has left burial sites exposed and surrounded by residential areas without secure boundaries. The new cemetery in Amelia has remained incomplete for over four years due to financial mismanagement. The DA is calling for proper budgeting, improved fencing, grass cutting, and safe access routes. They plan to launch a petition and mobilize community support to pressure the municipality into immediate action, ensuring cemeteries are restored to respectful, dignified spaces.
