SASOLBURG - The Metsimaholo Municipality is mourning the loss of former Executive Mayor Lindiwe Tshongwe, who passed away on May 21, 2024, after a long illness. Tshongwe, a significant political figure locally and provincially, also served as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) at the time of her passing. A dedicated leader, Tshongwe was instrumental in the 2017 local government elections, advocating for the South African Communist Party (SACP) to contest independently, leading to her mayoral appointment. She was the Free State Provincial Deputy Chairperson for the SACP and a Proportional Representation Councillor for the ANC. Current Executive Mayor Jack Malindi expressed profound grief, highlighting Tshongwe’s commitment to community development and her impactful contributions to municipal planning. Malindi extended his condolences to her family and friends, stating that they have lost a steadfast community activist. The municipality and community are left to grapple with the loss of a dedicated leader whose life exemplified selfless service.
