MEYERTON - The SAPS in Meyerton is investigating a case of culpable homicide after a crash on the R42 Meyerton–Heidelberg Road, which claimed six lives on Monday afternoon, 15 July 2025. A white Ford Focus, carrying five adults and a 3-year-old child, collided with a truck in a head-on collision. Constable Nompumelelo Zazini confirmed that all occupants of the Ford Focus died at the scene. According to initial reports, the vehicle was attempting to overtake the truck when the driver lost control, resulting in the fatal impact. The truck driver survived and is assisting police with the investigation. The bodies were taken to the Sebokeng Government Mortuary.
This incident has reignited concerns about the dangerous R42-route. In December, a similar crash claimed the lives of three children, and in July last year, a separate accident left several people critically injured. Zazini urged motorists to obey overtaking rules and slow down. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash‑cam footage is urged to contact Meyerton SAPS at 016 362 9012 or Crime Stop anonymously at 08600 10111.
