The SAPS urges motorists in the Vaal Triangle to stay vigilant about hijacking hotspots

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Orange Farm SAPS communication officer Sgt Shaan Motsapi issued a stern warning to motorists about the increasing threat of car and truck hijackings on the N1 and R28 routes, including Randfontein Road via Poortjie. Motorists of the Vaal Triangle are urged to exercise heightened caution during both weekdays and weekends. According to Motsapi, hijackings have surged, with criminals targeting drivers in both urban and rural settings. These incidents are often violent, with perpetrators employing sophisticated methods to deceive and ambush their victims. Motsapi says key precautions for motorists are to avoid giving lifts to hikers along the N1, particularly from Grasmere Toll Gate Plaza to Vaal Plaza Toll Gate, and not to stop for unknown vehicles or individuals warning about flat tires. Motsapi emphasized that it is important to take note of hot spots and know what to do to avoid being hijacked. Motsapi urged motorists to stay alert and help reduce the risk of hijackings.
