Three arrested for “Jobs for Cash” corruption scheme at Emfuleni Municipality

VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vaal Rand-based Hawks’ Serious Crime Investigation Unit arrested three suspects linked to a corruption scheme involving the illegal sale of municipal jobs at Emfuleni Local Municipality. The suspects, Teboho Prince Mabote (28), Rocky Moholola (29), and Matshediso Motseare (40), were apprehended after an investigation revealed a syndicate selling employment opportunities within the municipality in exchange for cash. The suspects allegedly posed as municipal employees, offering fraudulent employment contracts and forged documentation, managed through a Capitec bank account linked to the suspects. The Hawks estimate the syndicate profited over R200,000 from their illegal activities. The suspects appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, with their case postponed until Thursday for a bail hearing. This case highlights a broader issue of "jobs for cash" schemes in South Africa, following similar arrests earlier this year at Matjhabeng Local Municipality. The Hawks continue their investigation to uncover more details.
