VEREENIGING - The Gauteng SAPS is investigating a case of murder after the body of 23-month-old Retshidisitswe Mahlangu was found at the Old Vereeniging Hospital on January 12, 2024. Women For Change reports the toddler went missing around 15:00 on Friday, January 12, and was tragically found brutally murdered at approximately 17:00 pm on the same day in a vacant room at the Old Vereeniging Hospital, now a residential area. It’s alleged that the child's mother, Nthabiseng, had left her in the care of a friend while running errands in town, only to return to a nightmare. Retshidisitswe's grandmother, Paulinah Mahlangu, revealed the horrific details, stating that the toddler was found with a knife lodged in her head and her stomach brutally opened, wrapped in a carpet. The family remains in the dark about the circumstances surrounding their child's death. Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo urged anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to come forward. The community mourns as they seek justice for this heinous crime.
