VEREENIGING - The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (HAWKS) says two suspects were expected to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s court for dealing in unwrought gold. Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Noloyiso Rwexana, said in a statement this follows their arrest during a joint operation conducted by the Vaal Rand Hawks, De Deur SAPS, the Forensic Science Laboratory and other stakeholders. Rwexana said the team executed a search warrant at a plot on the corner of Walker Road and First road, Walker Fruit Farms, De Deur. The police interviewed the owner of the plot who indicated he is renting out a portion of his plot to two men who allegedly use it to bring sand to make tombstones. The two suspects were not present but they found two men that are their employees. Rwexana said police confiscated small amounts of carbon, about 200 tons of gold bearing material, empty cyanide drums and caustic bags. She said police investigation is continuing to bring two more suspects to book.
