Vaal Triangle Braces for Extreme Cold, Snow and Storms as Cut-Off Low Hits South Africa

VAAL TRIANGLE - Residents of the Vaal Triangle are urged to prepare for a spell of extreme winter weather starting this weekend, according to a statement from the South African Weather Service. A powerful Cut-off Low system will bring bitterly cold conditions, strong winds, and possible snowfalls over most provinces, excluding Limpopo, from Saturday, 7 June. The system will move eastward by Monday and Tuesday, impacting Gauteng and surrounding areas. Daytime temperatures are expected to plummet, with maximums unlikely to exceed 10°C. Gusty, damaging winds may lead to wildfires across interior provinces, while disruptive snowfalls could affect key routes like the N3 at Van Reenen’s Pass. Farmers, especially those with small livestock, are urged to take protective measures against exposure. There’s also a chance of severe thunderstorms with hail in Gauteng, and a low possibility of light snow over parts of the province on Monday night into Tuesday.
