Vanderbijlpark SAPS arrest man after shots fired near schools

VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS is investigating a case of a firearm being discharged in public following an incident near schools in the CBD on Friday, 15 August 2025. The event took place at the corner of Livingstone Boulevard and FW Beyers Street, an area close to several schools. According to reports, a security officer patrolling the area received a complaint that two men were assaulting learners. Upon arrival, he discovered one suspect firing shots in the direction of the pupils. The man was allegedly using a pellet gun to scare the children. The security officer successfully apprehended the suspect, who was later handed over to police. Vanderbijlpark SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu condemned the incident, warning against using pellet guns and toy firearms in public. Sigcu said such acts are highly dangerous and may cause panic or retaliation. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
