VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS has issued a warning to motorists not to drive under the influence of alcohol or any substance that may hinder one’s ability to think or reason. This comes after a fatal accident occurred over the weekend in Extension 15, Bophelong. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, yesterday said in a statement sent to 90.6 FM News that on Saturday morning, 6 July 2024, at around 02:00 am, four motor vehicles were involved in the accident near Maji’s place. With Vanderbijlpark SAPS’ arrival at the scene they found an African male at the back of a Toyota Tazz where he had already been certified dead by paramedics at the scene. Sigcu said a case of drunken driving and culpable homicide has been opened after one of the drivers was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested on these charges and transported to Kopanong hospital for blood samples. Sigcu warned drivers that there are traffic laws that need to be adhered to, in order to avoid such incidents. The Acting Station Commander Colonel Mashele, condemned the acts of certain individuals who do not abide by our traffic laws and also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. Mashele said this is a tragic loss of life and their thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.
