Vereeniging prison boss target inmates’ wives by threatening husbands.

VEREENIGING - Alarming allegations surfaced regarding the head of Groenpunt maximum correctional facility in Vereeniging, reportedly stalking and coercing female visitors to engage in sexual acts. Investigations by Sunday World exposed Joseph Nkoli, allegedly impregnating a woman, pressuring her to abort the baby, and engaging in sexual relations with another inmate's wife. A woman from Soweto revealed Nkoli's advances after a visit to her incarcerated husband. She says Nkoli gave her a lift from the facility in May after she had visited her husband, who has been in jail since 2019 for armed robbery, and asked for her contact details. According to the woman, Nkoli suddenly showed up at her house in the middle of the night in his white BMW. The woman said weeks after Nkoli’s night visit, he allegedly asked her to wait for him in Vereeniging after another visit to her husband in prison and then booked a guest house where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. She says she didn’t resist his sexual advances because she knew her husband would suffer back in prison under Nkoli if she refused. Nkoli vehemently denied the allegations, despite evidence and admissions regarding interactions with the women. Correctional Services pledged an investigation into these distressing claims.
