Vereeniging SAPS destroy 2,691 seized items including weapons, drugs, and counterfeit goods

VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS have destroyed a range of items that had been seized as evidence and stored in the SAPS 13 register at Cape Gate, Vanderbijlpark. Some of these items had been held in custody since as far back as 2013, and the destruction followed official court disposal orders. In total, 2,691 items were destroyed, including lost and found property, unclaimed goods, and evidence cleared by formal detection orders, such as dangerous weapons, drugs, illicit cigarettes and counterfeit products. Police explained that these are items unsuitable for return to owners or for disposal through public auction, making destruction the only safe option. SAPS spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango said the process was vital to community safety. Sango said by destroying these seized items permanently, they ensure it can never return to circulation or pose a threat to the public again. This forms part of the SAPS ongoing commitment to keeping communities safe.
