Water supply issues becomes increasingly difficult due to limited financial resources.

The Centre for Risk Analysis says South Africa’s water situation will not see improvement unless governance undergoes significant changes. According to the centre, the Department of Water and Sanitation needs 90-billion-rand annually to repair and upgrade infrastructure over the next decade. The centre’s Chris Hattingh attributes the financial challenges to operational inefficiencies within water management institutions. As water supply outages continue, Hattingh warns resolving non-revenue water issues becomes increasingly difficult due to limited financial resources.
