117 Suspects arrested in Sebokeng as SAPS cracks down on crime with Operation Shanela

SEDIBENG - The Sedibeng SAPS intensified its crime-fighting efforts through Operation Shanela on Saturday, 31 May 2025. Targeting the Sebokeng policing precinct, the high-impact operation led to the arrest of 117 suspects for serious offenses, including murder, rape, armed robbery, hijacking, and gender-based violence. Led by Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mashole Manamela, the multi-disciplinary initiative included SAPS units, traffic officials, and community partners. Detectives had already secured 97 arrests before the operation’s launch. A roadblock on Moshoeshoe Street led to the detention of undocumented foreign nationals. Additionally, 13 vehicles were tested for links to theft and hijacking, and six crime hotspots were patrolled. Two suspects were arrested for possession of drugs suspected to be crystal meth and mandrax. SAPS urges the public to report crime anonymously via 082 498 9563, 10111, 08600 10111, 112, or the MySAPS app.
