Community Patroller Fatally Shot in Evaton, Vaal Triangle

EVATON - The Evaton SAPS is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder during a shooting incident in the Eatonside area, Vaal Triangle on Friday, 13 September 2024. A group of nine volunteer community patrollers was ambushed Friday night around 22:50 while responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle. The patrollers spotted a white Opel Corsa bakkie which had been flagged by a concerned resident. After stopping a suspicious vehicle, two airguns were found inside. While questioning the vehicle’s occupant, the suspect made a phone call, after which gunfire erupted, hitting four patrollers. One patroller died at the scene, and three others were rushed to Levai Mbatha Clinic for treatment. Constable Thulisile Msibi expressed condolences to the victim’s family and vowed that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Police are appealing to the public for any information to help apprehend the suspects.
