LATEST UPDATE: Rand Water has yesterday issued a notice, clarifying the dates of when various Gauteng municipalities will be affected by an enormous water supply interruption, scheduled to commence tomorrow, 29 May 2025. The Emfuleni and Metsimaholo Local Municipalities seem to be under the hardest hit, with 16 days of water interruptions expected. First, Midvaal and Emfuleni will be affected by a 13-hour shutdown from 29 May at 18:00 pm until 30 May at 07:30 am. This is for the disconnect and removal of the Amanzimtoti Pump No. 5 for overhaul. Then, from 30 May at 06:00 am until 15 June at 03:00, Emfuleni, Metsimaholo and Ngwathe municipalities will be affected by the Cleaning of Sasolburg Reservoir 1. During these 16 days, there will be no supply to the reservoir, affecting these residents of the entire duration. Rand Water said in the notice that the maintenance work has been strategically scheduled during the low consumption months of May to July 2025 to minimise disruptions and better manage the potential impact on water supply.
