PARYS - The Fezile Dabi District Highway Patrol arrested five copper thieves in the Parys CBD, this past Wednesday morning, 24 April 2024 at approximately 03:45. The members reacted on information received about a white Mazda suspected to be involved in theft of batteries, driving along the R59 between Viljoenskroon and Parys. Spotted in the Parys CBD area the team tactically approached the vehicle and while searching the vehicle, they discovered bundles of copper cable with a street value of R63,000. It was further established that two of the five suspects were undocumented persons. According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Josephine Rani, all five suspects were arrested and the vehicle and copper cables were confiscated. The five suspects were expected to appear before the Parys Magistrate Court on Friday, 26 April 2024 on charges of possession of copper cables.
