VAAL TRIANGLE - The Sedibeng District SAPS says it officially disposed of a massive quantity of confiscated alcohol from illegal vendors in the Vaal area. Sebokeng SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, said in a statement on Friday, 27 June 2025, they disposed of around 4-thousand-914 litres of alcohol that was seized from individuals and businesses found operating without valid liquor licenses. Mokhachane said the disposal ceremony was attended by members from various SAPS stations across the district, including Evaton, Kliprivier, Meyerton, Orange Farms, Ratanda, Sebokeng, and Vanderbijlpark, alongside Gauteng Traffic Wardens and Community Policing Forum (CPF) representatives. Rea Gazette reports their estimate show the total street value of the destroyed liquor is approximately R339,000, based on average retail prices of commonly sold illegal alcohol in the region — including beer, ciders, and spirits. Vispol Commander of Sebokeng SAPS, Colonel Stofina Mofokeng, said the decrease in illegal liquor availability possibly saved individuals from becoming victims of gender-based violence and other crimes commonly linked to substance abuse.
Sebokeng SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said this disposal event is one of many operations being carried out across Sedibeng to ensure liquor regulation compliance and protect vulnerable communities. Community members are encouraged to report illegal liquor sales and unlicensed outlets by contacting SAPS anonymously via 082 498 9563, 016 466 2047, 112, 10111, 08600 10111, or through the MySAPS App.
