VAAL TRIANGLE - Parliament’s Communications and Digital Technologies Committee has adopted the SABC Bill, introducing a household levy to replace TV licences. Communications and Digital Technologies deputy minister Philly Mapulane says the high evasion rate in paying TV licences forced the new funding model. The change seeks to ensure the SABC can continue to provide essential public broadcasting services, while addressing its financial challenges. The bill will now undergo public consultation before it is tabled in Parliament.
