MIDVAAL - Executive Mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Alderman Peter Teixeira, hosted the State of the Municipality Adress yesterday, 27 June, presenting a comprehensive progress report since the administration took office in 2021. The SOMA is a critical aspect of local governance as it allows municipalities to be transparent and accountable to their residents and stakeholders across the board. Key highlights of the Mayor’s address included Midvaal's tenth consecutive clean audit and being rated the most financially sustainable municipality for the third consecutive year by Ratings Afrika. In addition, the Council approved a R1.9-billion budget for 2024/2025, focusing on infrastructure development and service delivery enhancement. Residents of Midvaal can expect a moderate increase in their utility bills due to the updated tariffs. Water will increase by 7%, sanitation by 6%, and the electricity tariff will see an increase of 12.7%, pending NERSA approval. Economic initiatives include new investments, support for SMMEs, and housing projects to address local needs. Public safety enhancements and infrastructure upgrades are also in progress, showcasing Midvaal's commitment to sustainable growth and community well-being. Mayor Peter Teixeira says the they remain committed to implementing the Municipality’s vision that they collectively made as an institution to every resident, business owner, professional, visitor and civil society.
