VEREENIGING - The accused in the murder of a Riverside High School teacher, Dr Tumelo Ntholeng and his co-accused cousin, Pakiso Makhanya, were granted bail by the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Friday, 26 April. Dr Ntholeng has been granted R60 000 bail, while Makhanya has been released on R30 000 bail as the court said it would not keep the two in jail, based on police speculations. Magistrate Chris Kruger denied accused number one bail because his confession didn’t convince the court that he was innocent, while accused number two abandoned his bail application. The two will remain in custody until the next court appearance on Monday, 27 May. Kruger said Ntholeng and Makhanya are not yet linked to the crime because police have not provided the court with the mobile link evidence, video footage and bank statements that link the two cousins to the murder of Palesa Mofokeng. The four men were arrested for the murder of Palesa Mofokeng, who was shot more than eight times on her way to work on 5 April. Her ex-husband Dr Ntholeng was among the four suspects arrested.
